The Code of Practice—Care of sick, Injured or Orphaned Protected Animals in Queensland was approved in March 2013 by the former Minister for Environment and Heritage Protection under the Nature Conservation Act 1992. The Code has been prepared by the department in consultation with RSPCA Qld, Queensland Wildlife Rehabilitation Council, Department of Agriculture and Fisheries and wildlife rehabilitators.

The code incorporates current best practice standards and guidelines in wildlife care and rehabilitation and will help licensed wildlife carers to ensure the welfare of sick, injured or orphaned protected animals and to achieve the best possible rehabilitation and conservation outcomes for Queensland’s wildlife.
