Current environmental authorities

Environmentally relevant activities require an environmental authority (EA) (under the Environmental Protection Act 1994 (EP Act)) to be issued before any activity can begin. An EA imposes conditions to reduce or avoid potential environmental impacts.

Under the Environmental Protection Act you have the opportunity to review and make a submission on the following types of applications for environmentally relevant activities:

  • large petroleum activities which require a site specific application,
  • greenhouse gas storage activities which require a site specific application, and
  • mining activities relating to a mining lease, which require a standard, variation or site specific application.

When deciding an environmental authority application, the administering authority is required to consider all submissions. To help in making an informed submission, you can view the EA applications which are currently available for public comment:
