Current stage

  • Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) process completed.

Description

  • Clearing of approximately 7672 hectares of native vegetation.
  • Construction and operation of a greenfield, open-cut mine extracting up to 20,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) of vanadium.
  • Shallow (20m-40m) open cut strip mining with sequential mining, backfilling and rehabilitation of disturbed areas.
  • An infrastructure area, including offices, laboratories, workshops.
  • A processing area consisting of run-of-mine and process pad.
  • An off-site water storage facility and associated pipeline to store and deliver water to the site.
  • Onsite water management infrastructure, including evaporation pond, raw water dam, mine water dam and dirty water storage.
  • A tailings storage facility.
  • A power station (diesel and gas generator and proposed area for a solar farm).
  • Diesel fuel, gas tank, chemical and waste storage areas.
  • A sewerage treatment plant and associated irrigation area.
  • Run of mine stockpiles, overburden and topsoil storage and management areas.
  • Road access from the Flinders Highway.

  • Approximately 15 kilometres east of the town of Julia Creek.

  • At least 30 years.

  • Approximately 200 (construction).
  • Approximately 150 (operational at a production level of 10,000 tpa) increasing to 250 (at the expected expanded production levels).

Commonwealth Approval needed

  • Yes (controlled action 2017/8007) single EIS assessment process for Queensland and the Commonwealth.

The EIS Assessment Report was issued to the proponent on 25 August 2020 in accordance with section 60 of the Environmental Protection Act 1994 (EP Act). The EIS process under Chapter 3, Part 1 of the EP Act is now completed.
