Small scale mining project guidance package
The department has prepared comprehensive guidance for small scale mining projects to assist operators in the small scale mining sector to meet their obligation to comply with the Environmental Protection Act 1994.
The department recognises the importance that small scale mining plays in contributing to regional and remote communities across the state.
The guidance materials cover the regulatory requirements for the environmental management of small scale mining projects throughout the life of the project. They describe the process for obtaining, transferring or amending an environmental authority (EA), and rehabilitating and surrendering mining tenements at the end of the life of a mine.
To conduct a mining activity you may require an environmental authority (EA). If the activity you are proposing to undertake requires tenure you will also need to have an approval from the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy (DNRME). Standard EA applications for mining activities can be completed through DNRME’s My Mines Online Service.

Application forms for an EA for an environmentally relevant activity can be found using the form and fee finder available on www.business.qld.gov.au. The form and fee finder includes all forms relating to management of an environmental authority including amendment, surrendering and conversions.
